Quinn was born on the Fox Ranch and lived on the Fagan and Power Ranches. Quinn was only three years old when his father was killed. His father, aunt, grandfather and grandmother are all buried in the O’Connor cemetery. His maternal grandmother was a slave but he doesn’t know how she got to Texas. His father and grandfather used to run horses from around the bay up to the O'Connor Duke Ranch. The Love family farmed shares, ranched, and broke horses and mules. “I grew up here on the San’tone River in a cowboyin’ family. My grandpa, John Summers, went up the trail. I thought about farmin’ but cowboyin’ was in me. I knew how to work cattle, so I stuck with it. I like it. It’s all I ever done.” Knowing how to work cattle was, in fact, born in his blood. Quinn was a renowned tophand who was always reliable, calm and skilled at his work.
