J. Paul Rainey came to the ranch to visit and hunt, traveling by train carrying greyhound dogs, baggage, people and horses. Rainey would show his African game hunt pictures to all of Victoria at Hauschilds Opera House. The tent in the background is the stable tent. Inscription on back of original by photographer: 'Left to right --Mathews - Paul Rainey -Elliott - Bert Hornburg [Refugio resident] & Claude Keeran [Victoria County rancher]. The dog is named 'Rattler,' & is valued at {dollar}5,000 - Mr. Rainey [owner of hunting lodge in Mississippi] is camped in Tom O'Connor's pasture - Refugio Co. hunting coyotes - J.D.M.'
