Branding cattle. McFaddin Ranch, Marianna, Tx.
between 1920 and 1940

A branding day on the McFaddin Ranch. Three cowhands surround a cow on the ground. One cowhand kneels on the cow, a second presses the branding iron into the cow's flank and the third watches. A fourth cowhand, horseback, has a straining cow on the end of his taught rope waiting to be branded next. The rest of the cattle are bunched up at the back of the pen.

Notes: The settlement on the McFaddin Ranch was named McFaddin. When the railroad came through they changed the name to Marianna. Some years later Al McFaddin changed the name back to McFaddin.
